Review : Audition boom in Korea

After success of the first audition program 'Superstar K', there has been surplus survival reality program in Korea TV channel. The audition program craze currently blowing in Korea has started to affect various fields of society- even in cosmetic surgery, employment, and marriage.
So, The audition craze has been spreading towards companies, organizations, and even the government for achieving their profit. For example, Jin Airlines have sponsored an audition program ‘The great birth' which sponsors the winning team on a three-day trip to Jeju island. As they attract public gaze, many companies offered large amount of prize. even the government has been involved in the audition craze by conserve energy, with a grand prize of 5million won. It makes people participate and eager to get the prize. The overseas Youtube also loaded a video on 'Korean audition'.
The Audition craze started when ordinary people like Paul pots and Susan Boyle successfully proved their hidden talents in the audition program 'Britain's got talent'. It moved on to the Korean society through a similar program 'superstar K' and 'I am a singer‘, giving people a chance to overcome their circumstances and change their lives. We can also find them similar to us where they told their heartwarming stories about their ordinary lives they went through.
In Korea's competitive society, the general public tend to idealize the performers' success and see hope through these auditions thinking that they also can achieve their dreams like the star who changed from ordinary people on TV, and that is mainly why audition programs have been key issue.
But we should always remember that if the auditions are too overheated in the programs, the competition in our society can produce a counter result.

  1. Before I read your journal, I never thought about overheat. That's true that audition program seems to be overheating these day :(
